Manage Assessments
This article provides teachers with an overview of the Insight Assessments features in Measuring Up Live®. This is then followed by how-to and step-by-step directions for the various assessment functionality.
This includes assigning assessments and modifying the due date after it has been assigned. Then diving into the details of creating custom assessments, editing or copying them, deleting assessments from the assessment library, as well as printing assessments and answer keys.
You should note that this article and supporting videos will refer to assessments in different subject areas English Language Arts/Reading, Math, and Science. Each of these subjects is licensed separately and will not be available if your district/school does not have a license to it.

Assigning Assessments
Learn how to assign an assessment from your Assessment Library, whether it is a publisher provided assessment or a custom one that has been created.

Step-by-Step Instructions
Go to Insight/Assessment Library.
Make selections from the drop-down menus and select GO.
Next to the assessment, select the Assign icon.
Choose your class and select GO.
Select your parameters and select Save.
Recommendation
Use the assessments under Summative Assessments (IAR practice assessment) as a baseline at grade level, or use the prior grade level.

Creating a Custom Assessment
Measuring Up Insight offers a vast item bank containing thousands of items. This allows you to create your own custom standards-based assessments in just a few steps.

Step-by-Step Instructions
The following instructions walk you through creating an assessment in Insight.
Select Insight from the menu then select the Create Assessment menu item.
Entering the following Details for your assessment:
Enter the name of your assessment.
Select the standards, grade, subject, and district mode from the drop-down menus.
Distractor mode sets the lettering or the numbering of the multiple choice items.
Select your sharing preference: Public or Private.
Public makes assessment available to school administrators and teachers in your district in the Assessment Library. Private only makes it available to you.
Uncheck the Protection option if you want to protect these questions.
Protected makes the items selected for this assessment unavailable to school administrators and teachers in the item bank for all future assessment creation.
If you select Quick Test Mode, enter the number of desired questions in the field provided.
Then select your preferences regarding number of reading passages. Quick Test allows you to enter the number of desired items, and based on the standards chosen, Insight will randomly choose questions to create the assessment.
If you do not want Quick Test Mode, leave it unchecked and you may go through and hand pick items.
Enter a Description of the assessment in the field provided.
When you are finished filling out the details, select the Next icon in the top right corner of the blue bar across the top of the screen.
Select your desired Exclusions:
Select the checkbox next to any existing assessment and the items will be excluded while selecting questions.
Then select the Next icon in the top right corner of the blue bar across the top of the screen.
Select the Standards you wish to assess.
Select Expand All, or click the arrow icon next to a standard to expand that standard’s details. The number of questions are identified to the right of each standard.
Place a check mark to the left of each standard you would like to review items from, and when you are finished click the Next icon in the top right corner of the blue bar across the top of the screen.
If you selected Quick Test, please skip to Step 7.
Review and select Questions.
Based on the standards selected, each question will be listed with the following details underneath:

Two difficulty levels
5-tier: 1 = easiest; 2 = easy; 3 = medium; 4 = difficult; 5 = most difficult
3-Tier: E = easy; A = average; D = difficult
Cognitive category
Bloom's Taxonomy: K = knowledge; C = comprehension; Ap = application; An = analysis; S = synthesis; E = evaluation
Bloom's Knowledge: F = factual; C = conceptual; P = procedural; M = mega-cognitive
Webb's DOK: Level 1 = recall; Level 2 = skill/concept; Level 3 = strategic thinking
Click the Filter icon in the upper middle section of the screen to filter items by question details or genre in order to drill down to specifics.
Use the Sort by drop-down menu to sort items, where you can choose to sort questions by passage (stimulus).
If there is a passage associated with the item, the title will be a link underneath the question. Select the title link to open the passage for review.
Select the Arrow icon to the right of the question to view the question in its entirety including correct answer and feedback.
Place a check mark next to each item you would like to include on your assessment, and when you are finished select the Next icon in the top right corner of the blue bar across the top of the screen.
Assign Points to questions and specify Order.
Use the Assign drop-down menu in the upper right corner to select the same point value for all items. Or, to assign a point value to each item individually, use the Points drop-down menu next to each item. You may leave all of the items at the default point value.
Order items by selecting the Drag icon to the left of the question and dragging it to desired location.
When you are finished select the Next icon in the top right corner of the blue bar across the top of the screen.
Review your assessment and Publish. You will see a brief summary of your assessment. Select the Publish icon in the top right corner of the blue bar across the top of the screen. The assessment will now be available in your Assessment Library.
As you go through the process of creating an assessment, you may save it to your drafts at any time. The assessment may be saved as a draft until you are ready to publish to be added to your Assessment.
Library. To save an assessment, just select the Save icon in the in the top right corner of the blue bar across the top of the screen at any point while you are creating the assessment. You may have multiple assessments in draft-form at the same time.
Assessment Drafts and Editing an Assessment
Learn how to edit an assessment or finish modifying it if it is in Drafts. A draft assessment is one that you saved but have not yet published.

You can modify any assessment you have created as long as any student has not started taking the assessment.
Step-by-Step Instructions
To edit an assessment follow these steps:
Select Insight from the menu then select Assessment Library menu item.
Select the My Drafts tab at the top of the screen above the drop-down menus.
Make selections from the drop-down menus, and select the GO button.
In the Action column next to the assessment, select the Edit icon.
The assessment will open up at the point you left off last. You may continue the assessment creation process. If you need to go back to a previous step to make changes, just select the step in the “bread crumb” menu bar at the top of the screen.
When you are ready to publish the assessment, go to the last step Review, and select the Publish icon in the top right corner of the blue bar across the top of the screen. The assessment will now be available in your Assessment Library.
Editing or Copying Assessments
This video provides teachers with how-to edit or copy an assessment.

You can modify any assessment you have created as long as any student has not started taking the assessment.
Deleting Assessments
If you have started to create an assessment, but then decide you want to delete and discard it, follow these steps:
Select Insight from the menu then select Assessment Library menu item.
Select the My Drafts tab at the top of the screen above the drop-down menus.
Make selections from the drop-down menus, and select the Go button.
In the Action column next to the assessment, select the Delete icon.
In the pop-up window select the Delete button.
Printing Assessments
How-To Video
Step-by-Step Instructions
Select Insight from the menu then select Assessment Library menu item.
Select Standards, Grade, and Subject from the drop-down menus. In the Created by drop-down menu, select Self.
Locate the assessment, and in the Action column next to the it, select the Download icon.
The assessment will open in PDF form where it can be printed.
Printing Answer Keys

Step-by-Step Instructions
Select Insight from the menu then select Assessment Library menu item.
Select Standards, Grade, and Subject from the drop-down menus. In the Created by drop-down menu, select Self.
Locate your assessment, and in the Action column next to it, select the Answer Key for, select the downward arrow, then select the Answer Key icon.
On the next screen the questions on the assessment will load along with the correct answers, standards information, item details, and Measuring Up lesson references.
Select the Print or Download icons in the upper left corner of the screen, if desired.
Select the Back icon in the right section of the dark blue bar at the top of the screen when finished.
