Creating a Student Import File (CSV File)
Creating a Student Import File (CSV File)
Updated over a week ago

This article will walk one through the steps to create a student import file (CSV File) that can be used to bulk load students into your account.

If you have more than 2,500 students to load, you will need to create multiple import files to load all of your students.

If your school is using Single Sign-On with Clever, ClassLink, Google Classroom, etc. do not upload student roster files. The students for your school are synchronized nightly. If you have any questions, contact support in your school.

Step-by-Step Directions

  1. Download the student import file .CSV which can be found at the bottom of this article. You may also download the template from the Upload Students screen.

  2. Open the student import file CSV that you downloaded to your device into Excel or Numbers. This should be in the Downloads folder unless you specified another directory.

  3. The template file you downloaded will have 3 rows, the first row being the header and then two sample rows of data.

  4. You will need to delete the sample rows of data. Select the row number holding down the shift key while selecting rows 2 and 3.

  5. Right click and select the Delete menu option.

  6. Now that the example entries have been removed, you can enter your students' information into the appropriate cells.

    1. Passwords must contain at least six characters.

    2. Passwords must at least one uppercase letter and one lowercase letter.

    3. Passwords must at least one number.

  7. After you have entered all your student information you will need to save this file. Go to your File menu and select the Save As... option.

  8. When saving the file, make sure you save as Comma Separated Values (.csv).

  9. Select the Save button.

  10. Now that you have a student import file you can proceed with uploading the file into Perfection Next, see the article Uploading Students to complete the upload process.
