This article walks through how teachers can set a student's Immersive Reader accessibility options — disabling Immersive Reader in whole or in part, and setting their default Text Display and Read Aloud settings.
Prerequisite:
You have a student in your class roster.

Note:
These settings control Immersive Reader only (available in eBooks and Interactive Editions). They do not affect the eBook Text-to-Speech tool, which is automatically available in all eBooks and cannot be disabled.
Step-by-Step Directions
Select the Manage menu item on the navigation bar.
Select Users, then Students.
Find the student and select Actions next to their name, then Update Account.
The Manage Students list. Select Actions next to the student you want to update.
Select Update Account to open the student's account.
Select the Accessibility Options tab.
You'll see three groups of settings: Immersive Reader — General Options, Text Display, and Read Aloud Options.
General Options
These checkboxes are controlled by the teacher — a student cannot re-enable a feature disabled here.
Disable Immersive Reader — Removes the Immersive Reader icon entirely when this student opens an eBook or Interactive Edition.
Disable Grammar Features — Turns off Immersive Reader's grammar tools (Syllables, Parts of Speech, Show Labels) for this student.
Disable Translation (Word and Document) — Turns off Immersive Reader's translation tools for this student.
Text Display
Sets the default appearance when this student launches Immersive Reader: Text Size, Font Family, Theme, and Increased Line Spacing. Unlike the General Options above, a student can still change these for themselves while using Immersive Reader — doing so updates the default for their next session.
Read Aloud Options
Sets the Voice (Male/Female) and Playback Speed this student's Read Aloud tool in Immersive Reader starts with. Unlike Text Display, this one doesn't become a new default if the student changes it — while reading, a student can open the speaker-settings icon next to the Play button and adjust Voice or Speed for that session, but the change doesn't stick. The next time they open Immersive Reader, it's back to whatever is set here.
Read Aloud Options and the Save button, at the bottom of the Accessibility Options screen.
Voice offers Male or Female.
What the student sees: they can adjust Voice and Speed here, but it only applies to the current session — it resets to the teacher's setting above the next time they open Immersive Reader.
Select Save once you're done.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does disabling Immersive Reader also turn off eBook Text-to-Speech?
No. eBook Text-to-Speech (the toolbar icon and Text-to-Speech Settings menu described in Using eBooks on Perfection Next) is a separate, always-on feature and isn't affected by these settings.
Does this affect the "Text to Speech" checkbox when creating or editing a class?
That's a separate, class-level setting — not documented yet. Contact support before relying on it for an accommodation while we confirm what it controls.
