Note:
Perfection Next provides audio three ways: eBook Text-to-Speech, built into every eBook and always on; Immersive Reader's Read Aloud tool, available in eBooks and Interactive Editions and controllable per student; and Text-to-Speech in the assessment player, which is off by default and turned on for each student by their teacher. Changing one doesn't affect the others.
This article walks through how teachers set a student's accessibility options — disabling Immersive Reader in whole or in part, setting their default Text Display and Read Aloud settings, and turning on Text-to-Speech in the assessment player.
Prerequisite:
You have a student in your class roster.

Step-by-Step Directions
Select the Manage menu item on the navigation bar.
Select Users, then Students.
Find the student.
Select Actions next to their name.
The Manage Students list.
Select Update Account to open the student's account.
Select the Accessibility Options tab.
At the top of the tab you'll see "Set this student's Immersive Reader and Assessment Player options." The settings are in four groups: Immersive Reader — General Options, Text Display, Read Aloud Options, and Assessment Player Options.
General Options
These checkboxes are controlled by the teacher — a student cannot re-enable a feature disabled here.
Disable Immersive Reader — Removes the Immersive Reader icon entirely when this student opens an eBook or Interactive Edition.
Disable Grammar Features — Turns off Immersive Reader's grammar tools (Syllables, Parts of Speech, Show Labels) for this student.
Disable Translation (Word and Document) — Turns off Immersive Reader's translation tools for this student.
Text Display
Sets the default appearance when this student launches Immersive Reader: Text Size, Font Family, Theme, and Increased Line Spacing. Unlike the General Options above, a student can still change these for themselves while using Immersive Reader — doing so updates the default for their next session.
Read Aloud Options
Sets the Voice (Male/Female) and Playback Speed this student's Read Aloud tool in Immersive Reader starts with. Unlike Text Display, this one doesn't become a new default if the student changes it — while reading, a student can open the speaker-settings icon next to the Play button and adjust Voice or Speed for that session, but the change doesn't stick. The next time they open Immersive Reader, it's back to whatever is set here.
Voice offers Male or Female.
What the student sees: they can adjust Voice and Speed here, but it only applies to the current session — it resets to the teacher's setting above the next time they open Immersive Reader.
Assessment Player Options
Text to Speech — Turns on the read-aloud tools in the assessment player for this student: the Speak Question button and the passage speaker. It's off by default. Only a teacher or administrator can turn it on — the student can't change it.
If a class used the old Text to Speech checkbox on Add Class or Edit Class, that setting didn't carry over. Turn Text-to-Speech on here for each student who needs it.
Select Save once you're done.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does disabling Immersive Reader also turn off eBook Text-to-Speech?
No. eBook Text-to-Speech (the toolbar icon and Text-to-Speech Settings menu described in Using eBooks on Perfection Next) is a separate, always-on feature and isn't affected by these settings.
What happened to the Text to Speech checkbox on Add Class and Edit Class?
It's been removed. Text-to-Speech in the assessment player is now set for each student on the Accessibility Options tab, under Assessment Player Options. It's off by default, and the old class setting didn't carry over.
Which assessment player options can students change themselves?
Students still set Line Reader, Color Contrast and Font Size themselves. When Font Size is off, the zoom buttons in the assessment player are hidden. The Magnifier option is no longer available.
