Grading Assistant

We are excited to announce our new Grading Assistant feature. Our grading assistant uses Generative AI to assist teachers in grading Long Essay Questions (LEQs) and Document-Based Question(s).

When grading Long Essay Questions (LEQs) or Document-Based Questions (DBQs) teachers will now have access to Grade and Feedback in the right panel which includes Grading Assistant, Grading Rubric for Essay, and Feedback for Student.

Grading Assistant (BETA)

The Grading Assistant (BETA) panel uses the student's essay and the College Board® scoring guidelines, criteria, and rubric to evaluate the strength of the student's work. This is available to teachers to use as a guide as they grade the student's work. Both the Long Essay Questions (LEQs) and Document-Based Questions (DBQs) will have qualitative feedback for the teacher to reference. Long Essay Questions (LEQs) will also have quantitative feedback displayed as a Likely Score Range for the essay.

You as the teacher are in complete control of how you use this information. If you can also rate the quality of the feedback provided to your student's essay simply by selecting the appropriate face icon at the bottom of the feedback.

Grading Rubric for Essay

Teachers will now grade these assignments by completing the Grading Rubric for Essay section in the right panel. This had previously appeared below the essay making it difficult to see the Rubric for Grading and the essay at the same time. This minor change should save teachers time eliminate some scrolling up and down when scoring essays.

Feedback for Student

The Feedback for Student has been moved to the Grade and Feedback panel on the right side of the screen. Now you can view the student essay while writing your feedback. You can also use the Generate Feedback button on the toolbar to summarize Grading Assistant qualitative feedback into strengths and weaknesses of the student essay, sharing it with the students. It is your responsibility as the teacher to review the generated feedback for accuracy and modify as needed, but will save teachers time in grading these assignment and provide students with meaningful feedback on their essay.

Right Panel

We have made some enhancements to the functionality of the right panel in the Interactive Editions described below.

Right Panel Tab

First up, we have added a tab to the right panel that allows you to open and close the right panel. Selecting the Tab when the right panel is open will close the right panel.

When the right panel is closed, selecting the Tab will open the right panel.

One can still select the Ellipses on the left side of the Right Panel to adjust the size of the panel to the desired width.

View Selector

We have changed the display of the right panel. At the top of the right panel one will now find a View Selector.

This view selector allows you to toggle the information that is displayed in the right panel. The above screenshot is the Notebook View. Previously the various views were selectable panels, but on smaller screens this left little space to view the content. This change allows one to quickly adjust the view, but also see more content with less scrolling.

All the same views are available for the sub-lessons as in the previous format. The views available to vary by product and lesson to only provide the appropriate views.
